Mission Statement

The Hispanic Business Student Association (HBSA) at San Diego State University (SDSU) is a student organization whose mission is to promote the awareness of and address educational and business issues related to the general SDSU community. HBSA, founded and incorporated in 1999 by students in the College of Business, is managed by the Officer Council and supported by its members, alumni, and the professional business community.

Purpose

The organization was formed to:

- Increase enrollment of Hispanics in higher educational programs.
- Assist organizations in recruiting, developing, and promoting Hispanic professionals.
- Provide networking and career opportunities.
- Promote Hispanic business leadership and entrepreneurship.
- To voice the concerns of Hispanic students and alumni interested in a career as professionals in the business world.

HBSA Highlights

Recruitment Workshop:
HBSA organizes one annual Recruitment Workshop in the Spring. This workshop brings corporate recruiters to SDSU, giving participating companies and organizations a unique opportunity to recruit from a diverse group of students. HBSA members are composed of a variety of majors, not just business. The Recruitment Workshop provides students a chance to network and learn of employment and internship positions within their field of interest.

Mock Interviews:
HBSA sponsors Mock Interview sessions every semester with Career Services.  This provides members the chance to get acquainted with the interview process. Members have the opportunity to hone their interviewing skills each semester in preparation for the interviews they will face upon graduation

Resume Workshops:
HBSA members are able to refine their resumes each semester at Resume Workshops done with Career Services. Members learn that resumes are a "work in progress" and how to update them with relevant information to paint an accurate picture of themselves for potential employers.

Fall Luncheon, Spring Banquet
The Fall Luncheon and Spring Banquet allows HBSA members to network with sponsors and the professional community in a formal setting. These end-of-the-semester events provide a forum to thank our sponsors and supporters, and to install our new Officer Council.

ABSC Recognition:
HBSA recognized as "The Most Improved Organization" by the Associated Business Student Council two years in a row. ABSC (Associated Business Student Council) is the governing board for all business organizations.
